Privacy policy
Last updated 22 October 2026
Lienage helps developers of distributed renewable energy projects, starting with mini-grids in Nigeria, prepare their projects for financing, and helps financiers review them. This policy explains what information we collect through lienage.com, app.lienage.com and our field capture app, what we do with it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. “Lienage”, “we” and “us” mean the company that runs these services. Questions go to hello@lienage.com.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, the company you belong to and your role in it.
- Your projects: what you enter about each project and site (for example location, size, connections and funding needed), and the documents you upload, forward to your Lienage address or import.
- Email you connect: if you connect Outlook or Gmail, we read the emails you receive to find project documents attached to them. We keep those attachments and each email's sender, subject and date. We do not keep the text of your emails.
- Files you import: if you import from Google Drive or OneDrive, we copy only the files you pick, once. We do not keep access to the rest of your drive.
- Field captures: photos, survey answers and GPS locations recorded with our capture app on a site visit.
- Technical information: your IP address, browser, the pages you use and the time, kept in logs so we can run the service securely and fix problems. We use a cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To read and organise your documents, match them to what financiers require, and show you what is missing and what to do next.
- To build your project's financial model, site design and readiness assessment.
- To send emails you ask us to send, such as requests for quotes or reminders, from your own connected address, and only when you tap Send.
- To share your project with financiers, only when you choose to.
- To keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How we use AI
We use AI models to read documents, pull out figures, and draft text for you to check. Today these are Anthropic's Claude models, which we reach through OpenRouter. We send customer information only to paid AI services whose terms do not allow them to train their models on it. We do not use your information, or anything from your Google or Microsoft accounts, to train AI models, ours or anyone else's.
Information from your Google account
If you connect Gmail, Lienage asks for read-only access to your email so it can find and file project documents attached to messages you receive. If you import from Google Drive, Lienage asks only for the files you choose in Google's file picker.
Lienage's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular, we use Google user data only to provide the features you see in Lienage; we do not use it for advertising; we do not sell it; we do not use it to develop, improve or train generalised AI or machine-learning models; and people at Lienage do not read it unless you ask us to, it is needed for security or to comply with the law, or it has been made anonymous.
Information from your Microsoft account
If you connect Outlook, Lienage reads the email you receive to find project documents, and can send email from your address only when you tap Send on a request or reminder you have seen. If you import from OneDrive, Lienage reads only the files you pick, and forgets the sign-in when the import finishes. The same limits as for Google apply: no advertising, no sale, and no AI training.
Who we share it with
- Your team: people in your company on Lienage see your company's projects, according to the roles your owners and admins set.
- Financiers you choose: we share a project with a financier only when you decide to.
- Service providers that run Lienage for us, under contracts that limit them to doing so: Supabase (database and sign-in), Cloudflare (hosting and file storage), OpenRouter and Anthropic (AI reading), and the European Commission's PVGIS service and OpenStreetMap, which receive only a site's location or town name to return solar data and map positions.
- The law: if we are required to by law or a court, or to protect people's safety.
Where your information is kept
Our providers may store and process information outside Nigeria. When they do, we rely on safeguards that the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 recognises, such as contracts that require the same level of protection.
How long we keep it
- We keep your account and projects while your company uses Lienage.
- Documents you delete can be restored for 30 days, then they and everything read from them are erased.
- You can disconnect Gmail, Outlook or a drive at any time; we then stop reading from it. To remove what was already imported, delete those documents.
- If your company closes its account, we delete its information within 90 days, except what the law requires us to keep.
How we protect it
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Each company's information is kept separate, and the database itself checks who may see each record. As your advisers, Lienage staff can see your company's information and, to help you or fix a problem, sign in to your account and make changes for you. Each time staff sign in to your account is recorded.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy, or object to how we use it, and you can withdraw consent you have given (for example by disconnecting an account). Email hello@lienage.com and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
Lienage is for businesses and is not meant for anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and tell signed-in users about significant changes before they apply.
